Experience an old fashioned western type of spring branding! This would be limited to either a couple or a family. We are anticipating May 7th as our big day for branding, weather permitting. We traditionally invite a few neighbors to help out and in return we help them throughout the year. The day begins early with a breakfast and then the gathering of cow and calf pairs takes place along approximately three miles of Whistle Creek. Because of the rugged brushy terrain, all work is done on horseback and with the help of cow dogs, usually crossing the creek several times. After the cows and calves are brought up to a corral, they are sorted, primarily by horseback. The calves are then roped, branded, vaccinated, and castrated if needed. A BBQ lunch is provided for the branding crew.
We would try to involve the winning bidder as much as they feel comfortable. You can be part of this experience without a horse! (We do NOT provide horses to ride, but would provide boarding for horses if people wanted to bring their own.) Breakfast and lunch is part of the day's experience. We run our cows and calves between Powell and Byron , Wyoming , along Whistle Creek and the Shoshone River . The Big Horn Mountain rise up to the east, and the Absorkee range of the Rocky Mountains frames the Big Horn Basin to the west. Donated by Gene and Marina (Kauffman) Davis. Remember you can place your maximum bid by phone by calling 319-936-2430 before central time Saturday, February 19th.
